Introduction

I am your basic meat and potatoes eater. Well, over eater I should say. And on top of that, a classic sugarholic. Ughh. I think the amount of sweets I consume on a daily basis would shock people.

My husband saw Forks Over Knives on Netflix and told me it was worth watching. You've probably heard of it. I wasn't that interested, but he turned it on for me one day when he was leaving for work and encouraged me to watch it. So, with 2 kids 2 and under hanging on me, I watched for a few minutes. Finally finished it a few days later. I guess that's how it is when you're a mom!

I have to say, though I know some of the research is flawed, it was life changing for me.

I knew I should add more veggies and fruits to my diet, but the meat and dairy issues I didn't know anything about. I had always heard that meat was especially good for my blood type. And of course, dairy is pushed heavily in the American diet. I just thought that was good for me. But apparently, you can get calcium from a lot of sources.

I am also LDS (Latter Day Saint) and we follow the Word of Wisdom. Which everyone seems to know says no coffee and no tobacco. But, I thought I should re-read it and was surprised to see that it really encourages a plant based diet as well. That was powerful to me and really cemented my desire to make some changes.

I couldn't stop thinking about the things I had learned, so I started a lot of new research in order to make diet changes. The first couple of days, I really cut out dairy and meat and actually felt pretty good. That even further made me want to make the switch.

So here I am, still trying to learn how to make the switch, having some good days and bad. But, glad that I'm on this road. I just want to keep going.
